3 Features Every Website Needs

The standards for web design are ever-evolving. What was popular and acceptable in 2015 is no longer on trend now. The way your website looks, feels, and functions is just as important, if not more, than what it says.

That’s why it’s important to put a lot of thought and care into your site. You wouldn’t try to sell a house without mowing the lawn and pulling the weeds first, right? It might be the most beautiful home in the world on the inside, but the chaos and disorder on the outside can scare potential buyers away.

There is a list of things that are important to consider when creating or rebranding a website. I’ve found these three important features aren’t often prioritized, but can make all the difference:

  1. Mobile friendly design. In the United States, approximately 50% of people use mobile devices or tablets to browse the web. Making your website mobile friendly will only increase your chances of conversions; not having it could cost you business. As you make updates to content, photos, etc., make sure you are also thinking about the mobile version of your site.

  2. Simple navigation and page structure. It’s frustrating to enter a website and feel completely lost or overwhelmed. Are you making people dig for the most important information on your site? Be clear, be direct. Keep things simple and easy to navigate. Use words anyone can recognize, like “About,” “Contact,” and “Careers.” Avoid internal jargon and redundant pages.

  3. Quick loading speed. Perhaps the video on your homepage is causing the site to load slowly, or maybe you’ve implemented too many clunky design pieces and they’re causing issues. People aren’t sticking around if your site doesn’t load quickly enough for them, especially if they’re new to your brand. Site speed also impacts SEO and Google rankings.
